Reflection

This week I have learned the importance of putting a document up on my google site correctly. Being able to use a google site is a great source to help keep all the students and parents at home up to date with what is going on in class. I have notice that since being out in the field, most schools don’t really have the money to have access to computers for the students all the time. By being able to put up a webquest on my classroom google site to have the students to do the assignment at home will hopefully help with that.

Reflection

This week I learned how by saving a video clip I can post it on my teacher site for my studnets to watch it, if the video clip ever leaves youtube or teachertube. I find this very helpful for me and my colleges to use help each other with teaching tools. I do plan on using this in my classroom to better help my students learning.

Reflection #8

The tools I have learned from professional development profile have better helped me to know what I can to help my students learn how to use technology. Everyone today has excess to the internet from their cell phones and lap tops. Many children are using the internet unwisely, and that is where is can come in to help teach them the proper use of technology. When you use technology in the correct way, great things can happen.

Seeing that school district have such wonderful tools to teach the students was neat. I could really see how the students’ learning curve went up when they had technology tools to learn with. If I get the chance to have technology tools in my classroom, I will take advantage of it without any worries.

Did You Know 3.0 Video

This video clip was very interesting. I enjoyed how the video made me think about how technology has grown so much, and how much more it can grow. It was interesting how it compared other countries to the US with population and knowledge. I didn’t know that people today are being trained for jobs that are not real yet. And it was all from how technology is growing so fast.

My Beliefs

I believe that technology use correctly in the classroom can have a positive effect on the students learning. I am a very hand’s on learner, and so are a lot of other people. By using an interactive game to help a students learn their times table better can really benefit them and they get to have fun while learning. But if you only use that math game to fill time until school is out, that is not a very productive time of learning for your students. Technology does need to be used in the classroom, because it is being used everywhere else. Why not have it in the one place where learning takes place every day? I think it can only help the learning to grow even more.

Lessons Learned

I learned how technology has really grown in the last few years and how it will continue to grow. One things that really caught my eye, was how the WWW is a great thing, but also not such a great thing. It is great to be able to get things fast, but it is also teaching the younger generation how to be lazy. The high tech learning was a awesome thing. To be able to have the tools to teach with such great technology would be great. Students from that video were really learning lots of things, and learning it in a way that you could see they could use in more of everyday life. Short hand writing is a very useful technique to use. But I do wonder if some people go over board and use one that are not useful.

Strengths and Weaknesses

Some of my strengths according to the UNI survey was that I was apprentice in most of the questions. My weaknesses were that I didn’t go above apprentice, but went low a few times. One thing I need to work on is learning about and applying my knowledge of equity, ethics, legal, and human issues concerning use of computers and technology. One workshop that I would need to attend, is to update my knowledge about the ethics of technology. Learning more about this can only help me by understanding more of the proper use of technology in the classroom. I need to use the world wide web more often to find educational information to help me in my future classroom.

Reflection #6

This week I learned how to post a video to youtube. I found this very helpful to me to know how to do this so that I can do it later on for my students. Making a digital story is a very useful and helpful thing to be able to do in the classroom. It gives the students a chance to learn something in a new way. By being able to upload any video, especially an education video online, will make it possible for anyone to watch. Most importantly, my students and their parents can watch the video at home. This way the parents will be able to see one thing their child is learning in school.

Recording my voice to a video was interesting. It did help me to really think about what I wanted to say, and to say it in a way so that everyone could understand me. This helped me to think about how I would give instructions when I am a teacher, because I want my future students to be able to understand me.

Video: Millenial Gereration

This video made me think about how much technology has grown and how it will continue to grow. A lot of kids growing up for me were more ahead of their parents in technology. But it was the opposite for me. My dad does the whole computer thing, which is nice for me. The children today do have such an advantage of technology today. They are almost learning faster then anyone else on how things work. I find it all interesting. I look forward to see what technology will look like in five years.

Reflection #5

My group decided to use photo story from windows for our digital story. Learning how to use photo story was fun. The main thing I enjoyed was how easy it was to use. There were no complications and hard parts in photo story. This is a great program for my future students to use when they are creating themselves. That is how simple photo story is.

Digital stories is one way I can communicate with my students parents by letting them see what their children have been able to do in class. They will see how excited their children are to show them what they have done and to see that I am using new up dated way to teach their children.

One way I will employ digital stories in my classroom is by creating a story that I will put up on the classroom site. This way my students will be able to watch the video at home with their parents. This can help me to save time during class if time is short and it will give the parents a chance to see what their children are learning in school.

A pro to Digital stories is that you can be as creative as you want to be. You can also use it to help teach anything you find helpful with that subject. The only con I see is the time to create a digital story and that some students if not taught correctly can create something bad.

Did You Know? Video

This video was really cool. I enjoyed it. With all of it’s did you know facts and then presenting more data of things happening today. The video did a good job of getting my brain ready to read the next did you know fact, and by the end, seeing those questions about what is happening in public schools today really made me think. It is amazing how fast technology has grown, and it is important to keep in mind about what is happening in our schools today when it comes to technology usage.

A Vision of Students Today Video

This video was very interesting. I saw a lot of things that happen to me and other classmates. We buy expenses books that we sometimes never use and don’t have enough time to read them all. But at the same time, spend way to much time watching tv and playing around on the internet. The technology we have today is great. But I don’t know if it has really been put to a good use for mankind? There really needs to be a better balance in schools today with using technology and books.

Digital Story Reflection

Reflection #4

These skills can help my students by giving them a chance to learn about history or anything else in a different way. It makes learning more fun than the same old looking at a book to learn about something far away. These tools will also help my students create by giving them a chance to think outside the box.

Digital stories will help me collaborate with my colleagues by giving us a chance to work together to create a story we all can use in our classrooms. When you split up big projects like this, you get to know each other’s ideas and how everyone works. As you learn how everyone works, you help each other with your skills.

I could employ these skills to achieve classroom objectives by showing the students a history lesson of what happened in the civil war. I would do this, so that the students get more hands on of what really happened in the civil war, but not to much hands on that it scares the students.
One pro of digital story is being able to let the students learn in a new fun way. You also are able to share what you have created with other teachers so that way you can help each other save time in the long run. A con of digital story is the time frame it takes to make one.

NASA Digital Story

I enjoyed this video. I have always liked learning about space and NASA. It is sad that there have been many lives lost while going to and from space. And our country is not the only one who lost lives, Russia has also paid a price for mans curiosity. Hearing that NASA has also been doing many other things to help our country is neat. They get one dollar for research and give back seven dollars to the country. That is good to know.

Culture Quest Interactive Game

My Culture Quest

The culture quest is a game where you get a job and travel the world finding exciting objects to fill a new exhibition space. You are given a map of places you can visit and a travel buddy to go with you that has special skills to help you out. One thing I like is how when a person is explaining to you how something works, you need to pay attention, so that when someone else asks you what it is, you can answer them. This is a great way to test the students listening skills and knowledge of what they were told.

As you travel the world, you get the chance to learn about other countries in a new way. I would defiantly use this during world history. Students always learn about other countries from text books and looking at pictures. This game really does give the students a chance to go to another country and learn something about it from a person that lives there. This is really an exciting game to play and fun learning all at the same time.

Transport Explorer Interactive Game

Transport Explorer

The transport explorer is an interactive game that teaches children about different kinds of transport. At first you can choose to look at the images of the vehicles, then you get to play the game. This is when you get to click on which kind of transport you want to learn about. It goes through the steps of how it works then quizzes you on what each part is names and then takes the same words and has you put them in sentences. After you are done with the game, there are ready made worksheets if you wish to use them. But I really think the game does a wonderful job in helping you learn the different parts names and how it all works.

I would use this interactive game while the class is learning about different times periods. I would do it this way, because it teaches you about the car and shows you pictures of cars from the twenties. It also teaches you about the bicycle, train, and boat. Most teachers don’t really take time in social studies to stop and see how a car works. But with this game, you wont have to, because the student can do the game at home and report back the next day of what they thought of it and what they learned. I plan on using this game in my future classroom.

When playing the game, after you have open click on the link below, click the green box when you are ready to play.

Reflection #3

Reflection #3: Teacher tube, You tube, Interactive sites, Zamzar.

I could use these tools for many different things. Teacher tube was great. I really like it how it is like You tube, but clean and more useable for the classroom setting. The only con I see from using Teacher tube is that I may not always have the video clip you have in mind. Unlike You tube, it has everything on it. But the con side of You tube is, there are a lot of things on there I wouldn’t want to see, let only my students see them. Teacher tube is the way to go!

The interactive sites are a wonderful way to help the students learn in a new way. Like the National Geography, you are able to go under water hands on and learn what is under the water in that lake. As a teacher, I would never be able to take my students for real under water. But by using the computer, it is cheaper and easier to get to.

Zamzar is a neat tool. I always did worry that once I found a video I wanted to use in class, that it would disappear over time. But now I know how to keep the videos from disappearing. The pro of this tool is not losing the video.

Reflection #2

Reflection 2

The tools will help me communicate with everyone a lot better. My students will be able to know what they missed in class by using google site. It will also give the students a chance to know what is coming up in school. The students’ patents won’t be left in the dark of what is going on at school with their children. They will also be able to check out the site to know how to help their child complete any homework they might have. The parents will no longer be left in the dark by accident. For my colleagues, they can get an idea of where I am at for teaching what the students need to know. By using these tools, my colleagues and I can exchange ideas easier and will be able to help each other out better.

I could use the calendar to help remind me of upcoming events of project going to be done in class. This way, I won’t get behind in class because of me. The tools can help me achieve my classroom objectives by keeping everyone informed and up to date.

A pro of using these tools is being able to communicate with the students’ parents easier. For example, when the teacher needs to talk to a students parent, the teacher usually sends home a note. The note is easy to loose. But by using the tools on google, no more notes lost. I can’t see any cons to using these tools in the classroom. I plan on using these tools in the classroom that I someday teach.

Video Section

The Video’s I found neat and very informing. Mr. Deuy and his fractions song was a wonderful way to teach children about fractions. I found the song very up beat and fun to listen to. The Introducing Web 2.0 gave me some new ideas of what I can use that is out there. I enjoyed these two clips.

Ideal Classroom Reflection

Ideal Classroom Reflection
My ideal classroom would have all the desks in groups of four, with the desks facing each other. This way, when the students work in groups they don’t have to move from their seats to talk to their group members. I would also have one area of the classroom empty except for carpet to sit on. This space would be for group reading and other relation activities. I would have a little book shelf in the corner with lots of books for the students to check out books to read. Plus there would be different pictures on the wall covering some of the topics we are studying. These are a few ideas of what I would have my classroom look like.
I would try to use all the different teaching techniques that there are. But really, depending on my students learn best, I will do more of what will help them out the best.
The technologies that I would utilize would be the internet and computers. The internet would be used to do research and to check the class blog of upcoming events and homework. I like being able to have the students do different types of homework without making them always use paper and pencil. To use the internet, you would have to have a computer. I would also use power point for lessons and games to reinforce learning on a topic we are discussing. Those are some of the technologies I would use in my classroom.
Some of the goals I would like to have the class embrace are being nice to one another, have the homework turned in on time, and cleaning up after ourselves. I know that the best way to help a group of people accomplish certain goals is by having a reward at the end. I would give the students a list of options from an ice cream party, to not having homework for a few days if they accomplished the goals.
I hope to teach 3rd or 4th grade. Those are the grades I remember best from elementary school. Because of that, I would like to teach those grades to help children today to also enjoy those grades.
